I was born in Indiana and moved to Cadiz, Kentucky, at age twelve, where I still live. I earned a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in Reading and Writing from Murray State University. After teaching English for Trigg County Schools for 29 years, I retired in January 2025 and shortly afterward joined the ship at Northwest. In addition to high‑school teaching, I have taught college‑level English at Hopkinsville Community College and Austin Peay State University for over a decade.

My husband and I have been married for 29 years and have three children. Our eldest daughter graduated from Murray State University and Southern Illinois University School of Law; she now practices family law in Belleville, Illinois. Our son, also a Murray State alum, works as a safety coordinator for Cupertino Electric. Our youngest daughter is a sophomore majoring in chemical engineering at the University of Kentucky and serves in the Kentucky Army National Guard.

Behavior & Conduct: Students will follow the Code of Conduct and the rules outlined in the student handbook at all times. Behaviors that interfere with the learning process, our academic environment, or show a lack of respect for others will not be tolerated.

 

Behavioral Procedures: First Offense–Verbal Warning; Second Offense–Parent Contact; Third Offense–Written Referral

 

All personal electronic devices must be put away out of sight during class unless the student has specific permission from the teacher.  From Student Code of Conduct:  “Explanation: Use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices during the instructional day is prohibited. Students will be expected to turn their phones off or put them on silent and out of sight for the entire instructional day. Students are prohibited from the use of their phones or personal electronic devices during the instructional day. Electronic devices include, but are not limited to, all existing and emerging technology devices that can take photographs; record or play audio or video; input text; upload and download media; connect to or receive information from the internet; and transmit or receive messages, telephone calls or images. Examples include, but are not limited to, smart devices (watches, tablets, glasses, etc.), headphones, earbuds, gaming systems, audio/video recording devices, etc.”

AI Policy: Per CMCSS policy (SLT-A005), AI is not a substitute for schoolwork that requires original thought. Students may not claim AI generated content as their own work. If a teacher has expressly forbidden the use of AI for a particular assignment in order to collect original student work and assess academic mastery, including, but not limited to a test or a paper, students may be reprimanded for Cheating, Plagiarism, or Forgery, pursuant to the CMCSS Code of Conduct (STS-M001).
